As I sit here drinking my Sunday morning coffee and Vemma (liquid vitamins). I started thinking about the week and all that really went on for me in tennis.
I spent nearly 25 hours on court coaching (The vast majority being with Jordan) but I did get to do some video analysis for Reghan Lynch as well. I also spent 8 hours reviewing video content in Dartfish (video analysis software). It lets me do side by side comparisons making sure that the kids our meeting all the key reference points compared to Fed and Nadal. I also spent a few additional hours studying pro player footwork on video (fun stuff).
I probably spent two hours talking tennis with other coaches. For example Ben Meeks (coach at the OAC) and I spent a few minutes discussing standards and what kids need to be doing today on and off court to meet their personal tennis goals.
This week I also decided to actually work with another player (adult) - on a part-time basis. This is something that I never thought I would do but they want to learn the ACE system and they were persistent so we will start working together shortly. He has already read the first of two books I asked him to read so I know he is eager.
I chaired our NCTA board of directors meeting on Tuesday and during this meeting both of our sub committees presented their findings.
The Funding committee headed by Phil Johnson has suggested that we drop the individual membership fee and simply go back being an association of clubs. They did some fantastic research over the last 3 months and came back with a great funding model for the clubs and the NCTA based on a three level system. Small, medium, and year round non OTA clubs (OTA clubs have their own model to help support the NCTA and our region). We are simply cleaning up the drafted funding document and will have it out to the club presidents and managers by mid Feb.
The League committee headed by Bruce Ramsay has already done some great work and research through surveys and it looks like that our league players and clubs would like us to focus on team inter club leagues for all levels including a singles inter club team league. If this turns out to be the case then we would focus our efforts on the team leagues but also make available through courtside flex league. The junior leagues and ladders our being worked on as well but no initial report has been made as of yet.
Gary Hawkes who is heading up our regions progressive tennis has been in touch with the OTA, Tennis Canada, the city of Ottawa and local coaches things seem to be moving full steam ahead with this program. This is a very important program to help tennis grow in our region & for those of you who know me you know that I want every summer camp in our region to utilize this system. We are currently looking at ways to help subsidize clubs with some of the cost of equipment. Gary and Ward (city of Ottawa) have invited Rufus Nel from Tennis Canada to join us next week at the presidents meeting and he will also join us at the City of Ottawas Tennis strategy meeting earlier in the day.
Finally, I dropped off two racquets to be strung yesterday and I will be dropping off four more today. I think that is it for the week for me.
Do not forget the Aussie Open starts this evening on TSN 2 at 6:30PM. Remember that I am calling Harrison over Murray in the first round.
